Washington's Dole

I would never have thought that anyone would try to get cash from a casino using their welfare benefits. But it seems that in the great state of Washington, this is possible (or at least was until King 5 ruined it for all of us).

Gotta love those Seattleites!

Apparently the cops are tough on some forms of crime in Seattle.

In early June, a 17 year old was punched in the face for jaywalking. Today I stumbled across an article about a man shot to death in downtown Seattle for whittling.

Too bad they are not taking a similar stance against sexual predators. Washington is getting sued by one rapist for back wages. Another Washington state rapist has been living the high life while he is incarcerated.

All I can say is OMG!

Facebook status

I got bored yesterday and did a search for "funny Facebook status messages." I copied the one I found the funniest and used it as my status. I got more feedback from this than any other posting.

My search.

My selection: "Fred Duhort is cleverly disguised as a responsible adult."

What is your favorite Facebook status message?

Your money is their money...

As I was driving in today I heard that Bank of America would no longer allow customers to spend money that they didn't have. Amazingly enough, this little bit of genius had to be legislated, the actual Federal Reserve rule which goes into effect in July will require all banks to behave in the same way.

Apparently, what the bank has been doing is allowing debit card purchases to overdraw a persons account. This of course gets the person a nice tidy $35 (or more) overdraft fee from the bank adding to the now negative balance.

It looks like they will have to find a new way to fund the CEO's salary.

Breakfast in the city

This morning at 7AM as I was heading into the cube farm, I spotted an older gentleman sitting on a concrete parking  stop between two cars. In one hand he had a "Big Gulp" sized drink, and in the other he had a brown paper bag. As I watched, he popped the lid off of the cup and dumped his soft drink under the car next to him. When it was empty he reached into the brown paper bag, pulled out a 40 ounce "Colt 45," opened it and dumped it into the cup. Putting the lid back on his beverage, he stood up and tossed the rest of his trash under the car next to him.

As he wandered off, I wondered where he might be heading.

Cell phone pictures

I am not sure what this all means.
  1. A man from Oregon, apparently posing as a cop was photographed by a cell phone during the commission of an attempted kidnapping.

  2. An 18 year old robber steals a cell phone and then takes pictures of himself. Unbeknownst to him, the phones owner has it set up so that all pictures are sent to a computer. The owner contacts police with a self portrait of the would be robber.

  3. Teenagers (under 18) send each other naked pictures. Legislation is hastily being created to address the multitude of issues this creates. In some cases, harassment, bullying and suicide are the result. Is this child porn?

  4. People actually stop in the throes of passion to answer their cell phone.
  5. A cell phone photo is captured of a shotgun toting man at a grade school bus stop!
How is this an improvement? When I was young, phones had cords, and no one ever called me from the toilet. I had some privacy and did not feel obligated to answer every call (now add text messages). In fact, no one had an expectation that I would be always available and instantly "on."

Had enough? I certainly have...

The countries most recognized coffee retailer (even without bikini baristas) has announced a new addition to their line up: 31 ounce coffee's.

Doesn't anyone think this is a little excessive? Who really needs 31 ounces of iced coffee in a single setting?

And what is so new about 31 ounce drinks? We have been purchasing monstrous beverages since the 1980 development of the "Big Gulp" by 7-11.

What is next? Will McDonalds follow suit and offer 31 ounce coffees? Will Starbucks offer 64 ounce double trenta sized coffees?
