Technology sucks

Technology sucks.

The other day I went into the men's room at work. There were two guys working on a urinal. One of them turned out to be a plumber and the other was an electrician. Sure it is neat to have toilets that automatically flush, but upkeep and repair is now twice as complex and likely twice as costly.

Another great example of the "age of complexity" is found hiding in the undertones of the recent Toyota recalls. If things like brakes - which are life safety critical - are now computerized and electronic rather than mechanical, how safe are we really? We used to depend on the guy behind the wheel having the capability to stop by pressing the brake pedal. Who do we depend on now to ensure that the car stops?

I am scared.
